Prem's
music education began with recorder lessons when he was six and
then flute lessons from the age of nine.
Prem
studied Flute, Piano, Saxophone and Jazz Improvisation at the
Conservatorium High School. Here he also gained his Certificate
of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (CSCM).
Prem
studied with Virginia Taylor and Vernon Hill at the Canberra
School of Music, Australian National University, where he gained
his Bachelor of Music (Performance).
During
his time in Canberra, Prem twice recorded for the ABC's "Young
Australia" program, both as soloist with the Canberra
School of Music Chamber Orchestra and as a chamber musician
with the Nielsen Wind Quintet.
Prem
also participated in Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM)
programs for three years. Typically, these programs were two
week intensive courses consisting of lessons, master classes,
chamber music and concerts with leading international artists.
Prior
to taking up the position of Teacher in Flute at the Orange
Regional Conservatorium, Prem worked in various Sydney Schools
as a Flute teacher and Conductor.
Prem
now teaches at the Mitchell Conservatorium, Bathurst and the
Orange Regional Conservatorium where he is Teacher in Flute
and Director of the ORC Senior Flute ensemble, ORC Wind ensemble
and the Orange Youth Orchestra.
As
a Performer, Prem gives solo and chamber music performances
throughout the year in the Orange Region, as well as performing
with the Macquarie Philharmonia and the Orange Symphony Orchestra
